Helping you EAT, MOVE and THINK your way to better health
April NEWS
from Naturally Chiropractic and Living Naturally
It's Spring, the daffodils are out, the trees are sprouting bright new leaves and the days are longer. It's also Easter, so for our young patients we will be running a colouring competition with prizes for the best in two age groups.
THINK« Sympathetic Dominance __

Before you all go off at a tangent thinking that our three chiropractors are getting into something a bit cheeky, Estelle, Jo and Kerri are currently learning more about how the sympathetic part of your nervous system (the bit that gets you out of trouble) has a knock on effect to your other systems when it is constantly switched on. The human body is designed to be balanced between the "get up and run" and "relax and chill" modes. Modern lifestyles place too much on the get up and run (out of trouble) side of things, which has an effect on our immune system, our metabolism and our hormones to name a few. One of the things that help restore the balance is being adjusted and another is to get out in nature and exercise. This month, Rebecca is helping you do just that…

MOVE« a walking group? __
In line with the wonderful change of weather, Rebecca has suggested we organise a fortnightly walking group that would be on Tuesdays, starting at 9:30am at the clinic. Walking is a gentle form of exercise, which is easy on your joints, can help to reduce stress, lower your blood pressure and boost your immune system. Plus walking in a group is a fantastic social activity. Would you be interested in taking part? So we can assess what everyone thinks – and get some suggestions – please jot your name on our contact form, with "walking" in the message, and we will announce our plans soon!
.EAT« High-energy snacks __
In line with our new walking group, we are introducing you to fat bombs. These are super-healthy snacks that are based on healthy fats that will give you a fast high-energy hit. They are also simplicity itself to make.
Cookie dough fatbombs Coconut and honey balls
1/2 cup coconut oil, melted
1/4 cup almond butter
1 tablespoon maple syrup
3/4 cup almond flour
1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate
1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
2 cups shredded unsweetened coconut
2 tablespoons raw honey
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla bean powder or vanilla essence
Instructions for both recipes

Using either list of ingredients, gently melt the coconut oil then stir in the other ingredients. Leave the chocolate until last in the cookie dough recipe so it doesn't melt. You can then either press the mix into a lined tray and pop in the freezer until set, or take a spoonful and roll into balls before cooling in the fridge. If you make balls they could be rolled in dark cocoa powder or desiccated coconut – or use both.
